yogurt
Heather Stanford asked:

Easy smoothies can be made with the use of yogurt. Sometimes, it’s even better than regular milk. Why? Well, basically because yogurt can contribute a lot of good benefits to the one with an intake of it. Live cultures in yogurt help prevent the elimination of good bacteria present in the body. It actually helps the body to fight off infection, and assists growth in children due to its calcium and B vitamins content. It is also a healing food, especially after coming off from gastrointestinal disorders like diarrhea.

When you think about it, having a smoothie anytime is as good a time as any, especially if you’re using yogurt as your base. You can even add protein powder or yeast (although it would taste a bit weird) if you want a power protein smoothie. But the best yogurt smoothies are usually the ones that utilize fruits.

So here are five recipes that are good to the last drop:

-          Blend 1 cup of natural or plain yogurt, a cup of apple juice, half a cup of blueberries, half a cup of strawberries (or you can have a mix of raspberries too), 1 banana and 2 cups of ice. Blend and process until smooth. Serve immediately while still cold.
-          Combine all of these ingredients in a blender: 2 cups of chopped fresh fruit of your choice (my kids love berries, so I usually make a mix of strawberries and raspberries), 1 cup of plain yogurt, 1 cup of crushed ice, some sugar and vanilla extract (to taste, but is also optional). Blend and process until smooth. Serve immediately.

-          Blend 1 cup of key lime yogurt, half a cup of sliced lime, three-fourths cup of low-fat milk, half a cup of raspberries and 2 cups of ice. Blend and process until smooth. Serve immediately.

-          Combine the following in a blender: 1 small banana, 1 cup of apple juice, 1 cup of plain/natural yogurt, 1 tablespoon of honey and 1 and one-fourth cups of mango slices. Blend until smooth. Add a cup of crushed ice and blend. Serve before it gets hot.

-          Combine 1 and a half  cups of milk, 2 ripe sliced peaches, 1 cup of peach yogurt (plain yogurt would do), one-fourth cup of honey, a teaspoon of vanilla, half a teaspoon of cinnamon, one-eighth teaspoon of nutmeg, and 5 ice cubes. Blend and process until smooth.

Hog it all to yourself, or have a smoothie party. Whatever you decide on, I’m pretty sure on one thing: You would definitely enjoy your yogurt smoothie, without the guilt of putting on some pounds.
